Elon Musk unveils Grok Imagine v0.9, offering fast, smart AI videos - I tested!

On October 5, 2025, Elon Musk unveiled a significant upgrade to the Grok Imagine platform, introducing Version 0.9, which promises enhanced speed and intelligence in AI video generation. This release closely follows OpenAI’s Sora 2 launch on September 30, 2025, igniting a fresh competitive landscape in AI video technology. Musk took to X to showcase the advancements, stating that the latest update allows for instantaneous text, image, and video generation. He emphasized, "Fastest text generation – Grok 4 Fast. Fastest video generation – Grok Imagine Video generation in under 15 seconds. Fastest image generation – simply scroll to see images appear almost instantly!" Additionally, he invited users to explore Grok’s innovative voice-first interface. With the “Open App in Voice Mode” feature, users can now engage with the app through voice commands right from the start, eliminating the need for typing and enhancing overall efficiency. After updating the Grok app, I decided to test Grok Imagine with a detailed prompt centered around a futuristic robotics scenario. I switched the model to Grok 4 Fast Beta and used the prompt: “Generate an ultra-realistic 8K image of a futuristic robotics laboratory. Cinematic camera movement across the lab, realistic textures, reflections, shadows, no cartoon or animation style.” I then converted the resulting image into a video using only the Grok Imagine app. The outcome was nothing short of astounding. Using Grok 4 Fast, the application produced a video clip that exhibited stunning realism. Every element, from the gleaming metallic robots to the luminous holograms, was strikingly lifelike. The lighting, reflections, and textures were impeccably rendered, showcasing Grok Imagine's capability to generate professional-quality, high-resolution AI videos effortlessly.
