Elon Musk slams Anthropic’s Claude as 'Misanthropic' after $30 billion funding round

In a recent outburst on social media, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and xAI, expressed his discontent with Anthropic, an AI competitor, shortly after the company secured a staggering $30 billion in a Series G funding round. This funding has elevated Anthropic's valuation to approximately $380 billion. Musk took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice his concerns about Anthropic's AI assistant, Claude, which he claims exhibits bias against specific demographic groups. He stated, "Your AI hates Whites & Asians, especially Chinese, heterosexuals, and men. This is misanthropic and evil. Fix it." His comments have sparked a heated debate among users, with some supporting his claims of bias in Claude's outputs, while others countered by highlighting issues of accuracy in Musk's own AI chatbot, Grok. This controversy arises at a pivotal time for Anthropic, which is striving to establish itself as a formidable player alongside leading AI companies like OpenAI, Google, and Musk's own xAI. The funding round was notably led by GIC, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, along with Coatue and other prominent investors such as Microsoft and Nvidia. Previous reports have indicated that Claude's model has restrictions regarding certain Chinese companies and raises concerns about potential misuse by hackers. Musk has consistently warned about the dangers associated with AI while simultaneously pushing forward with his own developments in the field. His critiques of competitor AI companies often revolve around themes of safety, bias, and the necessity for transparency in AI technologies.
