Elon Musk, CEO of xAI, expressed his frustrations on Thursday following the launch of OpenAI's new GPT-5 model, a significant competitor in the AI landscape. In a series of tweets, Musk asserted that his company's Grok 4 Heavy remains the 'most powerful AI model' and revealed plans to introduce Grok 5 by year-end to compete aggressively. Musk didn't hold back in his criticism of Microsoft's collaboration with OpenAI, warning CEO Satya Nadella that the partnership could be detrimental, stating that OpenAI is 'going to eat Microsoft alive'. In response, Nadella maintained his characteristic composure, remarking, “People have been trying for 50 years and that’s the fun of it! Each day you learn something new, and innovate, partner, and compete. Excited for Grok 4 on Azure and looking forward to Grok 5!” In a notable development, Musk also announced that Grok's new Imagine feature, which allows for video and image generation, will be accessible for free to all users. This move contrasts with offerings from OpenAI and Google, which typically reserve video generation features behind paywalls. OpenAI's GPT-5 boasts enhancements across various domains, including coding, mathematics, writing, healthcare, and visual perception. While it will be free for all ChatGPT users, those with paid subscriptions will enjoy increased usage limits. Additionally, due to the partnership between OpenAI and Microsoft, GPT-5 will be integrated into Microsoft applications such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry, providing users with expanded capabilities. As the rollout continues, GPT-5 is already accessible on the Copilot website, although it may take a few days for the full functionality to reach all users on the OpenAI platform.
