In a renewed clash between tech titans, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has claimed that the latest version of ChatGPT, 5.6, is the leading AI model globally. He made this assertion on social media, suggesting that the heightened scrutiny from SpaceX's CEO, Elon Musk, is a sign of OpenAI's success. "There are numerous benchmarks indicating that 5.6 is currently the best model available," Altman stated, adding, "But the most reliable indication is that Elon is fixated on me again." This renewed attention follows a significant legal development, where Apple has filed a lawsuit alleging that OpenAI, alongside its hardware partner io and two ex-Apple employees, has misappropriated trade secrets. OpenAI previously acquired io, a design firm led by Jony Ive, who is well-known for his work at Apple, as part of its expansion into consumer AI hardware. Responding to the lawsuit, OpenAI asserted that it has no intention of infringing on other companies' trade secrets. Musk, who has a history of publicly criticizing Altman, took to social media over the weekend, mocking the OpenAI CEO and labeling him as "Scam Altman." In a twist of irony, Altman retorted that Musk himself has questionable practices, referencing Musk's ambitious plans for SpaceX's space datacenters.
