Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang calls Elon Musk the 'ultimate GPU'

In a recent podcast appearance, Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang shared his admiration for Elon Musk, likening the tech mogul's cognitive abilities to that of the most advanced GPUs. Huang emphasized Musk's exceptional capacity to manage complex information, which he believes enables him to achieve remarkable accomplishments across multiple ventures. Musk is heavily involved in numerous groundbreaking projects, from robotics and self-driving vehicles to AI development. Notably, he is currently working on the Colossus II, touted as the world's first Gigawatt AI training cluster. During the conversation on the BG2 podcast, Huang highlighted the intricacies involved in building such advanced systems, stating, "These AI supercomputers are complicated things. The technology is complicated. Procuring it is complicated because of financing issues. Securing the land, power, and shell is complicated." Huang referred to the challenges Musk faces as potentially the most complex systems problem humanity has ever tackled. He noted that Musk's ability to integrate various interdependencies—financial and technical—into a single perspective gives him a unique advantage. The podcast hosts playfully compared Musk to a "big GPT" or a supercomputer, to which Huang responded, "He's the ultimate GPU." Huang praised Musk's sense of urgency and his determination to bring innovative projects to fruition, declaring, "When will comes together with skill, unbelievable things can happen. Quite unique." Musk's ambitious Colossus II data center, located near Memphis, Tennessee, has seen significant investment, with over $400 million reportedly spent to develop what is expected to be the largest supercomputer in existence. Nvidia's hardware has become essential for major tech firms engaged in the AI race, with the Colossus II set to feature at least 200,000 Nvidia GPUs, with plans to expand to a million. Huang's confidence in Musk's capabilities is evident, as he remarked, "I would not be surprised if he gets to a gigawatt before anybody else does." As Nvidia continues to invest heavily in AI infrastructure, including a recent $100 billion commitment to OpenAI, the company remains a key player in this evolving landscape.
