Source: Elastic agrees to buy CRV-backed DeductiveAI for up to $85M

DeductiveAI, an innovative startup focused on employing artificial intelligence to identify and rectify software bugs, has reached an agreement to be acquired by Elastic, a prominent enterprise software firm, for a deal valued at up to $85 million. This information comes from a reliable source close to the transaction. Founded in 2023, DeductiveAI emerged from stealth mode last November, announcing a successful $7.5 million seed funding round led by CRV, with contributions from Databricks Ventures, Thomvest Ventures, and PrimeSet. The funding round assigned a valuation of $33 million to the startup, according to data from PitchBook. Though both Elastic and DeductiveAI have not provided comments following multiple inquiries, any updates will be shared as they come. This acquisition signifies a swift exit for DeductiveAI, which is operating within the rapidly expanding field of AI site reliability engineering (AI SRE). As the demand for AI-generated code surges, the development of AI-enhanced SRE tools is becoming increasingly vital. By automating the debugging process, AI allows human site reliability engineers to transition from merely addressing outages to dedicating more time to product innovation. The move reflects a larger trend in the tech industry, where established companies are actively seeking to acquire AI-focused startups to enhance their product offerings with advanced technologies. Elastic, known for its flagship product Elasticsearch—a powerful search and analytics engine—went public in 2018 and is recognized for its capabilities in managing vast amounts of data in real-time. With this acquisition, Elastic aims to bolster its observability software, which provides engineers with essential tools for monitoring software systems and identifying security vulnerabilities. The integration of DeductiveAI's technology is expected to empower Elastic’s platform by equipping users with the ability to automatically oversee performance and swiftly address system issues as they arise. Co-founded by Rakesh Kothari, a former VP of engineering at ThoughtSpot, and Sameer Agarwal, who has a background with the Apache Software Foundation and Meta, DeductiveAI has made significant strides. However, reports indicate that the startup's growth, which reached approximately $1 million in annual recurring revenue, has lagged behind competitors like Resolve AI, co-founded by ex-Splunk executive Spiros Xanthos and Mayank Agarwal, who recently achieved a valuation of $1.5 billion in their latest funding round.
