FAA shuts down El Paso airspace for 10 days and won’t say why

The FAA provided little clarity regarding the closure, indicating only that the area is classified as “national defense airspace.” They also mentioned the possibility of deploying “deadly force” against any unauthorized airborne aircraft. Local officials in El Paso and across Texas reportedly received no prior warning about the restrictions, which is quite unusual for a major airport. El Paso International Airport serves over 3 million passengers monthly and is located in the 22nd most populous city in the U.S., according to the 2020 Census.
