Self-driving truck startup Einride raises $113M PIPE ahead of public debut

Einride, a Swedish startup renowned for its electric and autonomous freight transport solutions, has successfully raised an impressive $113 million through a private investment in public equity (PIPE) ahead of its expected public debut in the first half of 2026. The company gained attention for its innovative electric trucks and self-driving pods designed to transport goods without a human driver. Last November, Einride announced its plans to go public through a merger with Legato Merger Corp., a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC). While the deal initially valued Einride at $1.8 billion, this valuation has been adjusted to a pre-money valuation of $1.35 billion. Despite the decrease in valuation, investor interest remains robust, as evidenced by the PIPE exceeding its initial goal of $100 million. This funding round includes contributions from both new and existing investors, notably a prominent West Coast-based asset management firm and Stockholm's EQT Ventures. In total, the transaction has secured approximately $213 million, which includes earlier announced crossover financing. With the SPAC merger set to bring Einride to the New York Stock Exchange, the company expects to receive around $220 million from Legato’s trust account. Coupled with the recent PIPE investment, the projected gross proceeds may reach about $333 million, although Einride may look for additional funding before finalizing the deal. The capital raised will be directed towards accelerating Einride’s technological advancements, facilitating global expansion, and enhancing autonomous operations across North America, Europe, and the Middle East. Beyond Sweden, the company currently operates a fleet of 200 heavy-duty electric trucks serving clients like Heineken, PepsiCo, Carlsberg Sweden, and DP World. Furthermore, Einride has initiated limited deployments of its autonomous vehicles with clients such as Apotea in Sweden and GE Appliances in the United States. Einride is among several autonomous vehicle firms that have opted for SPAC mergers to secure funding, following the footsteps of Aurora Innovation and Kodiak AI, which pursued similar routes in recent years.
