In a strategic move to enhance its platform, eBay has announced its acquisition of Tise, a social marketplace specializing in second-hand fashion and home decor. While the financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, eBay sees immense potential in Tise's ability to engage with Gen Z and millennial consumers. The Oslo-based Tise stands out for its community-centric features such as following sellers, liking and commenting on listings, and offering personalized product recommendations. eBay believes these elements will significantly enrich its consumer-to-consumer (C2C) experience. This acquisition follows eBay Ventures' initial investment in Tise back in 2022, showcasing a continued commitment to the platform. Oliver Klinck, eBay's VP of Global Markets Success & C2C, stated that this step is a natural progression in their investment strategy, aimed at accelerating Tise's growth and unlocking innovative opportunities. Klinck emphasized that Tise's trendy inventory and dedicated user base align perfectly with eBay's vision to strengthen its C2C offerings and connect more deeply with younger enthusiasts. The acquisition also highlights eBay's intent to modernize its platform, attract a younger demographic, expand its social commerce capabilities, and enhance its footprint in the sustainable retail sector. Expected to finalize by the end of Q4 2025, pending customary conditions, this deal marks a significant step for both companies. Eirik Frøyland Rime, CEO and co-founder of Tise, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that both companies share a commitment to making resale enjoyable and accessible, which is vital for promoting sustainability. Since its inception in 2014, Tise has successfully raised $45 million in funding, according to data from Tracxn, indicating strong investor confidence in its innovative approach to social commerce.
