Earth AI is vertically integrating the search for critical minerals

Roman Teslyuk, the founder and CEO of Earth AI, is determined to accelerate the search for critical minerals such as copper, platinum, and palladium. The startup has been focused on exploring regions in Australia that were previously overlooked, but Teslyuk has expressed frustration with the slow pace of data collection. "I hate delays," he stated in a recent interview. While Earth AI’s AI-driven models have identified promising locations for mineral extraction, the process of verifying these findings has been hampered by significant delays in laboratory processing. Traditionally, labs that analyze rock samples face a backlog of around two months; however, with a surge in interest for new mineral sources, these delays have now more than doubled. Currently, Earth AI is facing a backlog of 7,000 meters of samples awaiting analysis. To tackle this challenge head-on, the company has decided to establish its own laboratories, aiming to reduce the typical processing time from five months to just five days. Teslyuk believes that while their models are proficient in pinpointing potentially valuable mining sites, confirmation through drilling is essential to ascertain the type and distribution of minerals present. He emphasized, "We can’t see what we hit until we analyze the core samples. For final assessments regarding the economic viability of a mine, we will still rely on third-party validations. However, an efficient in-house lab could drastically cut costs and optimize drilling strategies by providing timely data on the best locations to target. Teslyuk concluded, "If answers are delayed, the subsequent drilling questions are less informed. The goal is to ask the right questions early, enabling us to pinpoint our drilling efforts effectively. The faster we can receive this data, the more strategic our exploration will be."
