Tesla is currently seeking approval for its 'FSD Supervised' technology in the Netherlands, but the Dutch safety agency, RDW, is advising the company's supporters to refrain from pressuring them regarding the decision. The RDW emphasized that such efforts will not sway the outcome of their review process. In a recent statement, the RDW addressed Tesla fans who have been reaching out to the agency in hopes of expediting the approval of Tesla's advanced partially automated driving system, which is known as Full Self-Driving (Supervised) in the U.S. The agency expressed gratitude to those who have already contacted them but clarified that continued outreach is unnecessary and burdensome for their customer service team. "Road safety is our highest priority, and any admission will only come after we are convincingly assured of the system's safety," the RDW stated. The agency indicated it would make a decision on Tesla's request once the company demonstrates its compliance with the Netherlands' rigorous vehicle safety regulations. A timeline for Tesla to showcase its technology has been established, with a potential decision on authorization expected as soon as February. Last week, Tesla encouraged its followers on social media to reach out to the RDW, claiming that the agency had promised national approval by February 2026 and urging fans to express their enthusiasm. However, the RDW quickly corrected this assertion, clarifying that such approval is not guaranteed. In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated an investigation into Tesla's FSD-equipped vehicles following reports of numerous traffic violations associated with the use of the system. Despite the activation of FSD Supervised, Tesla vehicles still require a human driver to remain alert and ready to intervene at any moment. Elon Musk has long promised that Tesla owners would soon be able to transform their electric cars into robotaxis, allowing them to earn money while they are away. However, the realization of this vision remains elusive, as Tesla has recently informed customers that forthcoming updates will necessitate both new hardware and software. In Texas and other locations, Tesla is piloting a Robotaxi ride-hailing service, but these vehicles currently operate with human supervisors who can intervene when necessary. Musk aims to eliminate the need for human drivers in Austin by the end of 2025.
