DOJ released Epstein files with dozens of nudes and victims’ names, reports say

On Friday, the Department of Justice unveiled a collection of Epstein files that has sparked significant concern due to the inclusion of numerous unredacted nude photographs and the names of at least 43 victims. This release comes over a month after the deadline established by the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which was set for December 19. Reports indicate that the New York Times discovered nearly 40 unredacted images, which appear to be part of a personal photo collection belonging to Jeffrey Epstein. These images depict nude bodies alongside identifiable faces, raising questions about the age and consent of those involved. Some photographs reportedly showcase scenes from Epstein's private island, featuring beaches and intimate settings within bedrooms. In response to the public outcry, the Times alerted government officials about the presence of these nude images. Following this notification, many of the photographs have been either redacted or removed from the DOJ's online files. A spokesperson for the DOJ stated that the department is currently undertaking further redactions to eliminate any personally identifiable information and sexually explicit images. Once these adjustments are completed, the revised documents will be made available online. The DOJ emphasized its commitment to victim protection, noting that it has already redacted the names of thousands of victims within the millions of pages released. With a dedicated team of 500 reviewers working tirelessly to meet the transparency requirements while safeguarding victims’ identities, the department insists that only a minuscule 0.1 percent of the released pages contained any unredacted identifying information.
