Musk's feud with Trump and exit from DOGE are really bad for Dogecoin

This week has been particularly harsh for Dogecoin (DOGE), the cryptocurrency that soared to fame partly due to Elon Musk's endorsement as 'the people's crypto.' On Thursday, DOGE experienced a significant drop of approximately 10%, contributing to a staggering 22% decline over the past week. This downturn coincides with Musk's recent split from the Trump administration and his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aimed to streamline the federal government. The rift between Musk and Trump has intensified, particularly after Musk criticized the president's spending initiatives, and Trump withdrew his nomination of Musk ally Jared Isaacman to lead NASA. The conflict escalated on Thursday when Trump expressed disappointment in Musk, prompting a sharp rebuttal from the Tesla CEO on social media platform X, where he claimed Trump wouldn't have won the election without his backing. In response, Trump labeled Musk as 'CRAZY' and threatened to terminate his government contracts, resulting in a 14% drop in Tesla's stock for the day. Musk's retort on X was equally pointed, stating, 'Go ahead, make my day,' and indicating that SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft, which remains the sole U.S. option for transporting astronauts to and from the International Space Station. While the feud between these two high-profile figures may not directly affect Dogecoin's intrinsic value, the coin is notoriously volatile and can fluctuate based on public sentiment, celebrity endorsements, and news related to Musk. Historically, Musk's support has driven significant price movements for Dogecoin; for instance, it surged over 15% in a single day in 2022 when Tesla started accepting the coin for merchandise, and it jumped over 30% the following year after Musk altered the Twitter logo to feature a Shiba Inu, the coin's symbol. As the fallout from the Musk-Trump fallout continues, investors in Dogecoin are now feeling the consequences.
