Spotify’s new feature lets you explore the story behind the song you’re listening to

Spotify has unveiled an exciting new feature called "About the Song," allowing users to delve into the narratives behind the music they're enjoying. Announced on Friday, this feature presents short, swipeable story cards that highlight intriguing details and behind-the-scenes insights sourced from third-party platforms. Designed to enhance the listening experience, the "About the Song" feature is currently in beta, available exclusively to premium users in select countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. Users can access this new addition through the "Now Playing" screen by scrolling down to find the dedicated card for supported tracks, enabling them to swipe through the captivating stories behind each song. Spotify expressed its belief that music enthusiasts often feel a strong urge to learn more about a track that resonates with them. In a blog post, the company stated, "Music fans know the feeling: A song stops you in your tracks, and you immediately want to know more. What inspired it, and what’s the meaning behind it? We believe that understanding the craft and context behind a song can deepen your connection to the music you love." The launch of "About the Song" is part of a flurry of updates from Spotify this week. In addition to this feature, the streaming service announced that users in the U.S. and U.K. will soon have the ability to purchase physical copies of their favorite audiobooks directly through the app. Furthermore, two new audiobook features, "Page Match" and "Audiobook Recaps," have also been introduced. Spotify has also expanded its lyrics capabilities, making translations available worldwide and enabling all users, not just premium subscribers, to view lyrics while offline. Notably, lyrics will now be positioned directly beneath the album cover or accompanying video. Additionally, Spotify recently announced changes to its Developer Mode APIs, aimed at enhancing the development of third-party applications.
