Digs, an innovative startup focused on enhancing the home building process through artificial intelligence, has successfully secured $19.1 million in seed funding. Emerging from stealth mode earlier this year, the company had previously raised $14 million across two earlier funding rounds, as revealed by co-founder and CEO Ryan Fink in an interview with Business Insider. On Thursday, Digs announced the completion of an additional $5 million round, led by Dallas-based SPLY Capital with contributions from Lanthorne Homes. Based in Vancouver, Washington, Digs is on a mission to streamline the construction process by utilizing AI to manage and organize essential building documents. Ryan Fink, who previously co-founded Streem, a startup acquired by Frontdoor for a substantial sum, launched Digs alongside Ty Frackiewicz, the company’s chief product officer. Digs offers two primary products: DigsCanvas, which facilitates preconstruction collaboration among trades and vendors, and DigsCare, which manages warranty issues post-construction, aiding builders in troubleshooting and minimizing ineligible requests. Additionally, Digs creates 'digital twins'—interactive 3D models designed to help homeowners maintain their properties after construction is finalized. Fink emphasized the importance of this tool, stating, "This is their life's largest asset, and they know nothing about it," highlighting the common loss of crucial information once a home is handed over. The company generates revenue by selling access to builders, who can then invite contractors and homeowners to collaborate at no cost. Digs is also investigating the potential for consumer sales, where both the company and builders would benefit from a share of the profits. Furthermore, it is exploring a subscription model that would allow homeowners to book seasonal or quarterly maintenance services. Currently, Digs boasts nearly 10,000 homes utilizing its platform, and Fink anticipates that the company will achieve positive cash flow by the end of next year. With a team of 28 employees primarily focused on engineering, product development, and design, the startup plans to leverage its new funding to expand its sales department. Digs is part of a growing trend of startups harnessing AI to transform the construction industry. For example, Trunk Tools is developing AI agents for project tracking, while Scalera applies AI for procurement and tender management. As Digs continues to innovate, it will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the future of home construction.
