Depop, the popular fashion resale platform, has introduced an exciting new feature called "Outfits," aimed at users passionate about creating stylish fashion collages. Announced on Wednesday, this tool offers a moodboard-like design interface, enabling users to curate and share their outfit inspirations with followers. To create an outfit, users simply select an item they want to style and click the scissors icon on the right side of the screen. This action unveils a variety of customization options, allowing for the addition of vibrant backgrounds and adjustments to the size and placement of images. Templates are also available to guide the layout of users' creations. All items included in the collages are available for purchase, and if an item becomes sold out, the app suggests similar alternatives, enhancing the shopping experience. This new feature not only allows sellers to showcase items in a more appealing manner but also motivates potential buyers to envision how different clothing and accessories can be paired together. Users can easily share their styled outfits across popular social media platforms, including Pinterest and Instagram, tapping into the growing trend of collage-making among younger audiences. The launch of Outfits appears to be a strategic move by Depop to engage its Gen Z demographic, as the trend of collaging has surged in popularity. Notably, Pinterest launched its own collage app, Shuffles, in 2022, further highlighting this creative expression in fashion. Currently, the Outfits feature is accessible to all users within the Depop app. This announcement follows a strong financial report from parent company Etsy, which revealed that Depop's Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) saw a remarkable year-over-year increase of 34.7% on a currency-neutral basis, positioning the platform on a trajectory toward a $1 billion GMS run rate. In contrast, competitor Mercari reported a Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of $728 million in the fourth quarter of 2024, showcasing the competitive landscape in the resale market.
