'India is taking the lead on digital': Dell's Silveira sees explosive AI growth in India

Dell Technologies is intensifying its focus on the Indian market, envisioning a future rich in AI-driven PCs and immersive gaming. Rosandra Silveira, Senior Vice President of Global Retail Sales, highlighted India's vast potential during a conversation with Business Today, stating that the country is a crucial element of Dell's global growth strategy. Having spent over two decades with Dell, Silveira reaffirmed the company’s dedication to India, noting, "We’ve been here for more than 20 years and have been manufacturing locally for over 18. India is home to our second-largest workforce outside the U.S." In introducing a new generation of AI-enhanced PCs, Silveira described Dell's latest offerings, including the iconic Area 51 and the revamped Aurora gaming laptops, as the most ambitious lineup she has encountered. "The Area 51 is an absolute powerhouse, excelling in CPUs, GPUs, and thermal performance," she remarked. "The Aurora model is more compact, versatile, and ideal for content creation, making it accessible for a wider audience." Dell's strategy also emphasizes 'full silicon diversity' in its consumer products, incorporating chipsets from Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD, while promising impressive battery life of up to 22 hours in lightweight designs. Silveira pointed out that the timing is ideal for these innovations, with 1.5 billion Windows 10 PCs worldwide needing upgrades, particularly among the substantial user base in India. Recognizing the cultural shift in gaming, Dell is enhancing its engagement with gamers through Alienware Experience Stores located across India. These venues serve as more than just retail spaces; they host community events such as Gaming Fridays and Saturdays, broadcast live on YouTube. Silveira emphasized, "Gaming has evolved from a niche hobby to a cultural phenomenon. Everyone engages with gaming in some capacity." India's enthusiasm for technology supports this trend, with Silveira noting the country's leadership in online transactions and rapid adoption of AI tools, which are utilized by 65% of Indians—double the global average. With a presence in 6,000 locations nationwide, including exclusive outlets and partnerships with retailers like Reliance and Croma, Dell ensures widespread visibility of its products. "We’re making our extensive portfolio available everywhere," she stated. To combat 'decision fatigue' among tech buyers, Dell has streamlined its product branding, launching a simplified lineup consisting of Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max. Silveira explained, "Our goal is to clarify what technology can do for consumers. This isn't just a random assortment of products; it’s a curated experience." Sustainability remains a cornerstone of Dell’s future ambitions, with plans to enhance the use of recycled materials in packaging by 2030. Silveira mentioned specific accountability measures across the supply chain to ensure these goals are met. Looking toward 2035, Dell's vision for India is informed by the country's burgeoning AI landscape and an increasing demand for digital access. With India producing 90 million college graduates annually, yet having only an 11% laptop penetration rate, Dell seeks to address this significant gap. Silveira noted, "Gen Z is already a majority in India, and 75% believe AI will transform their work and creativity. We need to provide technology that is not just relevant today but also future-proof." When discussing innovation at Dell, Silveira credited the company's culture and resilience. "Even in successful times, we continuously seek improvement. The team in India is remarkable—there’s a persistent 'we’ll figure it out' attitude." As Dell charts its future course, it is clear that the company's investment in India is both strategic and timely.
