Dell revives XPS lineup at CES 2026 with lighter, faster XPS 14 and XPS 16

Dell revives XPS lineup at CES 2026 with lighter, faster XPS 14 and XPS 16

At CES 2026, Dell has made a significant comeback with its iconic XPS laptop series, showcasing the revamped XPS 14 and XPS 16 models. The message from the tech giant is clear: the XPS line is here to stay, ushering in a new era for its high-end laptops. The redesigned XPS 14 and XPS 16 are not just lighter; they have been completely overhauled to enhance performance, battery longevity, and user experience. Dell emphasizes that these machines are tailored for creators, professionals, and power users who require performance without the extra weight. Both models boast a unibody design crafted from CNC-machined aluminum and Gorilla Glass, featuring integrated side walls for enhanced durability. In response to user feedback, Dell has relocated the XPS logo to the front lid and has reverted to a traditional function key layout, optimizing key travel for greater typing precision. The seamless glass touchpad now includes subtle etching to improve usability while maintaining a clean aesthetic. This generation also prioritizes sustainability, integrating modular USB-C ports and easily removable keyboards for simplified repairs, alongside the use of recycled materials in the chassis and batteries, adhering to the latest EPEAT 2.0 standards. Under the hood, both laptops are powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors with integrated Intel Arc graphics featuring 12 Xe cores. Dell claims that the XPS 14 offers up to 57% faster AI performance, while the XPS 16 boasts an impressive 78% increase, along with over 50% faster graphics compared to their predecessors. The thermal system has been significantly redesigned to include the thinnest and largest fans to date, enhancing airflow while keeping noise levels and heat in check, thus contributing to outstanding battery life. Portability is a standout feature, with the XPS 14 measuring just 14.6mm thick and weighing approximately three pounds—over half a pound lighter than its predecessor. The XPS 16 is also lighter, coming in at 3.6 pounds, nearly a full pound less than the previous model. Notably, the XPS 14 has a smaller footprint than the MacBook Air 13 but offers more screen real estate. Both laptops are available with OLED or 2K LCD InfinityEdge displays. The tandem OLED technology, first seen in 2024, is now incorporated into these new models, promising enhanced brightness, improved efficiency, longer lifespan, and more stable color reproduction. For users focused on battery life, the 2K LCD option can provide up to 27 hours of usage or over 40 hours of local video playback on select configurations, thanks to smart power management features that include variable refresh rates between 1Hz and 120Hz. Looking ahead, Dell plans to expand the XPS lineup later this year with new models at various price points, starting with an ultra-thin XPS 13, which is expected to be under 13mm thick. The XPS 14 and XPS 16 will be available in limited configurations in the U.S. and Canada beginning January 6, with the XPS 14 starting at $1,649.99 and the XPS 16 at $1,849.99. A wider range of configurations, including a new entry-level option, is anticipated in February. Initially, both models will launch in Graphite, with a Shimmer color option to follow later in the year. An Ubuntu 24.04 version of the XPS 14 is also on the horizon.
