Datadog stock soars 31% on blockbuster earnings as AI winners emerge in software

Datadog experienced a remarkable surge of 31% in its stock price on Thursday, following the announcement of record earnings and an upward revision of its annual guidance. This impressive performance highlights the growing recognition of software companies as key players in the artificial intelligence landscape. For the first time, Datadog's quarterly revenue surpassed the one billion dollar mark. This surge in stock price also positively influenced shares of other tech firms, with Snowflake and MongoDB each reporting gains of around 10%. As a provider of cloud infrastructure, Datadog plays a crucial role in supporting AI models developed by companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, with OpenAI being its largest client. During the earnings call, CEO Olivier Pomel disclosed that Datadog has secured two significant hyperscaler clients for their superintelligence training labs. Analyst Andrew Sherman from TD Securities referred to the earnings report as "eye-popping," labeling Datadog a "must-own stock." The enthusiasm around Datadog's results follows a strong performance from Twilio the previous week. Investors believe that both companies exemplify how firms leveraging AI-native solutions while clearly outlining their monetization strategies can alleviate concerns about market disruptions. At Twilio's recent investor day, the company unveiled exciting new features aimed at enhancing the collaboration of AI agents. These updates include improved customer data logging, seamless handoffs between agents, and the creation of actionable data lists. While these improvements may seem basic, Twilio CEO Khozema Shipchandler emphasized their potential to significantly enhance customer service interactions by enabling agents to better address client issues. For instance, if a customer calls an airline and gets disconnected while troubleshooting, having the ability to retrieve saved information means the conversation can continue without starting over, ultimately saving time and ensuring smoother service. Shipchandler noted, "We're not just lowering costs and serving more consumers; we're also expanding revenue opportunities." Despite ongoing challenges within the software sector, Twilio has instilled confidence among investors, seeing a stock increase of about 50% over the past month — outperforming all other companies in the IGV Software ETF. This surge follows Twilio's strong quarterly earnings report, which marked its highest revenue growth in over three years, with voice revenue increasing by 20% compared to the same period last year. Analyst Rishi Jaluria from RBC Capital highlighted Twilio's unique position, stating it is differentiating itself through the variety of communication channels it offers and the extensive customer data at its disposal. Looking ahead, Shipchandler hinted at forthcoming product developments in governance and observability.
