Cyient Semiconductors has successfully secured new funding from Edelweiss-managed funds and affiliated co-investors, valuing the Hyderabad-based chip manufacturer at approximately $500 million post-transaction. This investment comes as the company aims to enhance its capabilities in the power semiconductor and custom silicon sectors, driven by the increasing demand for AI infrastructure. The financing package totals around $30 million, comprising nearly $10 million in equity and about $20 million in structured debt. The deal is contingent on final agreements and standard closing conditions. This funding arrives at a pivotal moment when the semiconductor industry is witnessing a surge in investor interest, largely fueled by the growing energy requirements of data centers due to AI workloads. In the past year, Cyient Semiconductors has significantly broadened its portfolio, shifting from traditional semiconductor services to product-led strategies. Notably, the company acquired Kinetic Technologies, a San Jose-based power semiconductor firm that has delivered over three billion chips worldwide and holds more than 100 patents. Additionally, Cyient launched a family of gallium nitride (GaN) power ICs in collaboration with Navitas Semiconductor and has been involved in modernizing India’s semiconductor capabilities through the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) program. The newly acquired capital will be directed towards enhancing product research and development, establishing semiconductor validation and testing facilities in India, and addressing working capital needs as the company targets larger global clientele. “Power will be the pivotal factor for AI in the coming decade, and addressing it requires semiconductor companies with advanced custom silicon expertise and proprietary power intellectual property,” stated Suman Narayan, CEO of Cyient Semiconductors. He further emphasized that this investment from Edelweiss would expedite the company's mission to become a significant player in the global power semiconductor landscape, showcasing India's innovation on the world stage.
