Kevin Mandia sold his cyber company to Google in 2022. He just raised $190 million for a new venture

Kevin Mandia, known for his pivotal role in the cybersecurity sector, is making waves once again. Just four years after selling his cybersecurity firm Mandiant to Google for a staggering $5.4 billion, Mandia has launched a new venture, Armadin, and successfully raised nearly $190 million in a recent funding round. This funding round was spearheaded by Accel, with significant participation from Google Ventures and other notable firms such as Kleiner Perkins, Menlo Ventures, and Ballistic Ventures—another company co-founded by Mandia. In a recent interview with CNBC, he highlighted how the rise of artificial intelligence, especially agentic AI, is transforming the landscape of cybersecurity. Armadin specializes in developing and managing autonomous AI agents that continuously monitor for potential threats. "I wasn’t going to sit on the sidelines watching another shift change in cybersecurity without leveraging 30 years in the industry to do something," Mandia remarked. As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated and rapid, the tech industry is witnessing a surge in companies integrating AI-enabled tools and enhancing their cyber defense capabilities. Since its inception in September, Armadin has quickly expanded, employing over 60 new staff members and collaborating with Fortune 100 companies. Mandia revealed that the innovative name 'Armadin' came to him during a nocturnal moment of inspiration, recalling the historical significance of the 1588 Spanish Armada. "Somehow my brain remembered eighth-grade history," he quipped. This new venture is set to redefine how cybersecurity is approached in an era dominated by AI advancements.
