On Monday, La Poste, France's national postal and banking services provider, experienced significant disruptions due to a suspected distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. The company referred to this incident as a "major network incident," which has impacted all their information systems. As a result of the attack, various services, including La Poste's online mail and banking platforms, its website, and mobile application, have been rendered temporarily unavailable. However, the company reassured customers that they can still conduct banking and postal services in person. La Banque Postale, the banking division of La Poste, confirmed that users were unable to access their mobile app and online banking services due to the cyber incident. While a Russian hacktivist group has claimed responsibility, the true identity of the attackers remains uncertain. This incident occurs amid a wave of recent cybersecurity challenges faced by the French government, including the discovery of remote control software on a passenger ferry. Furthermore, last week, the French Interior Ministry reported a data breach where hackers infiltrated email accounts, obtaining sensitive documents such as criminal records. Shortly thereafter, a 22-year-old suspect was arrested, although the connection between these events is still unclear.
