Cursor, the AI-driven coding assistant, has reportedly reached an annualized revenue of over $2 billion. This figure was derived by multiplying the revenue from the most recent month by twelve, as revealed by sources to Bloomberg. Notably, the four-year-old startup has seen its revenue run rate double within just the past three months. This announcement comes as a response to growing skepticism surrounding Cursor’s growth trajectory. Recently, social media discussions highlighted concerns about potential stagnation, particularly following notable departures of developers to rival platforms, notably Anthropic's Claude Code. Founded in 2022, Cursor initially targeted individual developers with its offerings. However, over the past year, the company has shifted its focus towards securing larger corporate clients, which now contribute around 60% of its revenue, according to Bloomberg's insights. While some individual developers and smaller companies have migrated to Claude Code due to its competitive pricing, it appears that the higher-spending corporate clientele remains loyal to Cursor. In addition to Claude Code, Cursor faces competition from other prominent players in the burgeoning market for AI-assisted software development, including OpenAI's Codex, as well as startups like Replit, Cognition, and Lovable. The last valuation for Cursor stood at an impressive $29.3 billion, following a $2.3 billion funding round co-led by Accel and Coatue in November. As of now, Cursor has not provided a response to inquiries regarding this latest development.
