Coreweave stock pops after company announces $6 billion AI data center in Pennsylvania

Coreweave's stock experienced a remarkable increase of over 9% on Tuesday, fueled by the announcement of a groundbreaking $6 billion artificial intelligence data center project located in Pennsylvania. This initiative will kick off with a 100 megawatt data center in Lancaster, situated approximately 70 miles west of Philadelphia, with the potential for expansion to 300 megawatts. Coreweave's CEO, Michael Intrator, expressed the company's commitment to meeting the insatiable demand for high-performance AI computing, stating, 'The demand for high-performance AI compute is relentless.' He emphasized that Coreweave is dedicated to scaling a cloud infrastructure specifically designed for AI, reinforcing the United States' leadership in this critical sector. This announcement was made during the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh, where various leaders, including Senator Dave McCormick and former President Donald Trump, gathered to explore AI and investment opportunities within the state. Notably, Google also unveiled a substantial $25 billion investment in data center infrastructure during the summit, in addition to pledging $3 billion towards the enhancement of two hydropower plants in Pennsylvania. Since going public at the end of March, Coreweave has seen its shares soar more than 250%, starting from an opening price of $39. Just last week, the company revealed its plans for a $9 billion acquisition of Core Scientific, a data center infrastructure provider, a move expected to significantly enhance Coreweave's access to power and real estate assets. This strategic acquisition will also alleviate future lease commitments by approximately $10 billion, according to company reports.
