Chronic shortages of labor, power, and equipment have been cited as critical issues, along with the lengthy process of obtaining necessary permits. Construction executives working on OpenAI's initiatives specifically pointed out a lack of skilled tradespeople, such as electricians and pipe fitters, to handle multiple ongoing projects. Moreover, the extensive power needs of these planned data centers create a significant energy bottleneck.
