In light of the potential threats posed by these AI tools, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jay Powell convened major US banks last week to address the emerging cybersecurity risks. The UK's AI minister, Kanishka Narayan, echoed these concerns, stating, "We should be worried" about the model's capabilities. Inside Anthropic, the awareness of these risks is palpable. Logan Graham, who leads the company’s red team dedicated to testing models, pointed out that the Mythos model could enable rapid, automated exploitation of vulnerabilities, potentially overwhelming organizations around the globe, including those with advanced technical defenses. The rise of AI tools has already had a profound impact on the multibillion-dollar cybercrime sector, equipping both amateur hackers with affordable means to create malicious software and allowing professional criminals to enhance their operations through greater automation. Christina Cacioppo, CEO of security and compliance firm Vanta, noted, "Attacks are already increasing in frequency and sophistication, thanks to AI," stressing that many companies are ill-equipped to manage these risks due to outdated security practices that fail to keep pace with AI-driven threats.
