In a strategic move to enhance its data governance capabilities, Collibra, a Brussels-based platform, has announced the acquisition of Raito, a data access startup established in 2021. This acquisition aims to address the growing complexities of data access as more organizations leverage AI for workflow automation. Although Collibra did not disclose the financial details of the deal, Raito has previously secured $4 million in funding from various investors, including Dawn Capital and Crane Venture Partners, with Collibra also participating in the funding round. Felix Van de Maele, Collibra's founder and CEO, emphasized the increasing challenges enterprises face in managing data access at scale. "We've received feedback from our clients indicating that as more departments require access for AI integration, the traditional methods are proving inadequate and cumbersome," he noted. Collibra currently offers a product called Collibra Protect, which focuses on data privacy; however, the integration of Raito's technology is expected to enhance and automate these access control measures. Raito's cloud-native solutions position it favorably in the current AI landscape, marking a significant advantage over legacy competitors. The shared history between Raito's founders and Collibra adds a layer of familiarity that strengthens this acquisition. Van de Maele remarked, "We are keen to continue building upon this foundation; this acquisition signifies the beginning of a new chapter." This acquisition follows a trend in the industry, where companies are seeking to strengthen their data governance frameworks amid an evolving technological landscape. For instance, Salesforce's recent announcement to acquire Informatica reflects a similar strategy. Van de Maele pointed out that the rise of AI has highlighted the fragmentation within data management systems, prompting a need for cohesive governance solutions. With nearly $600 million raised in venture capital since its inception in 2008, Collibra continues to partner with major enterprises such as Heineken, Credit Suisse, and SAP to streamline their data governance efforts.
