OpenAI has just announced that its powerful coding assistant, Codex, is now accessible through the ChatGPT app, making coding more convenient than ever. Launched about a year ago, Codex's mobile integration enables users to oversee and manage their development tasks from their smartphones, ensuring flexibility and efficiency in their workflows. This innovative update, unveiled on Thursday, is currently in preview and available for all iOS and Android users. OpenAI emphasizes that this feature goes beyond mere remote task management. Users can now interact with their Codex environments in real-time, whether it’s reviewing outputs, approving commands, switching models, or initiating new projects, all from the palm of their hand. In addition to this mobile enhancement, OpenAI previously introduced background operation capabilities for Codex on desktop environments, allowing the tool to autonomously handle various tasks. Moreover, a new Chrome extension has also been rolled out, enabling Codex to function seamlessly during live browser sessions. The recent surge in innovations from OpenAI coincides with similar advancements from Anthropic, which launched its own remote monitoring feature, Remote Control, for its coding tool, Claude Code, last month. This race to develop the most effective coding assistant highlights the fierce competition between OpenAI and Anthropic, as both seek to dominate the market. Over the past year, Claude Code has seen a rise in popularity among tech professionals and businesses, although both platforms remain widely utilized.
