Cloudflare continues to experience significant service disruptions as of Thursday, following a major outage earlier in the week. This latest round of issues has left numerous users across various regions struggling to access websites and services reliant on the company's network infrastructure. Downdetector reported over 550 user complaints from the United States around 8:07 AM IST, highlighting ongoing instability. The breakdown of these reports revealed that 58% of those affected are facing server connection issues, while 30% are encountering website access problems, and 12% are experiencing hosting-related disruptions. Users have reported a variety of challenges, such as websites not loading and crucial services becoming inaccessible. According to Cloudflare’s official system status page, several scheduled maintenance operations are currently underway across its global data centers. Maintenance was being conducted at the Juazeiro do Norte (JDO) facility from 05:00 to 09:00 UTC on Thursday, with warnings issued about potential traffic rerouting that could lead to slight increases in latency. The company also cautioned PNI and CNI customers to prepare for temporary failovers due to possible unavailability of network interfaces during this maintenance period. Similar maintenance activities were noted at the Santiago (SCL) data center, scheduled for the same time, while the Amsterdam (AMS) data center is undergoing maintenance from 00:45 to 06:45 UTC. Again, Cloudflare emphasized that users in these regions might experience elevated latency due to traffic rerouting. In contrast, Amazon Web Services is showing no recent issues on its official service health dashboard. However, Downdetector recorded over 900 reports from the United States earlier in the day, with 71% of these users reporting problems specifically in the us-east-1 region, while others flagged issues in us-west-2 and us-west-1. This pattern suggests that disruptions are impacting multiple cloud ecosystems beyond just Cloudflare. Downdetector has also identified several major platforms and gaming titles experiencing outages due to the broader network instability. Popular games such as Counter-Strike, Battlefield, Rocket League, Elden Ring, Fortnite, and Apex Legends have all reported disruptions across various regions. Steam logged over 8,300 outage reports around 7:57 AM IST, with 79% of users facing server connection issues. Additionally, Epic Games Store users reported login problems, with over 450 complaints noted at 7:35 AM IST. This latest round of disturbances follows a widespread outage earlier in the week that impacted major platforms, including X and ChatGPT. Cloudflare later acknowledged that a latent software flaw in its bot mitigation systems was triggered by a routine configuration update, leading to significant traffic disruptions. In a post on X, Cloudflare’s Chief Technology Officer, Dane Knecht, expressed regret over the instability, recognizing that the company had failed its customers and the broader internet community. He confirmed that services have since been restored and attributed the failure to a bug that caused a critical service to crash.
