Pokémon RedandGreen‘s GBA remakes are getting re-released on Switch for $20 a pop

The beloved Game Boy Advance remakes of Pokémon, namely FireRed and LeafGreen, are making a comeback on the Nintendo Switch. Originally launched in 2004, these versions are often hailed as the definitive iterations of the classic Pokémon games, correcting numerous bugs and balancing issues found in their predecessors. They also incorporate elements from Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire while staying true to the original gameplay, mechanics, and visual style. Nintendo has officially announced that these re-releases will be available following a special Pokémon Presents stream scheduled for February 27 at 9 AM Eastern/6 AM Pacific. However, there's a twist for subscribers of the Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Instead of being included in the subscription's Game Boy Advance collection, FireRed and LeafGreen will be sold as standalone titles for $20 each. This decision allows players without a subscription to enjoy the games, but it may frustrate those who were hoping for more content in the subscription service. Additionally, both titles will feature local wireless multiplayer capabilities, although online play will not be supported. Initially, there was mention of Pokémon Home compatibility for importing creatures from these games to future installments, but this note has since been removed. Despite this, fans remain hopeful that they will eventually be able to transfer their Pokémon from FireRed and LeafGreen into newer titles in the series.
