A group of seasoned professionals from the tech industry has successfully raised $21 million to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in software engineering, including late-night outages and urgent system failures that demand immediate action. Ciroos, a startup launched by former executives from Cisco, Amazon Web Services, and Gigamon, recently emerged from stealth mode with its seed funding round, which was led by Energy Impact Partners. Based in Pleasanton, California, Ciroos is developing AI agents designed to function as reliable teammates in site reliability engineering (SRE). Traditionally, keeping software systems operational and swiftly addressing issues has been a labor-intensive process, often leaving on-call engineers scrambling during off-hours to resolve critical failures. Ciroos's innovative agents aim to support a company's operations team by proactively detecting problems, determining their root causes, and either autonomously resolving them or assisting human team members in accelerating the troubleshooting process. The $21 million funding round is particularly notable, especially considering that the average size of a seed funding round in the first half of 2024 was only $1.3 million, according to Crunchbase. CEO Ronak Desai shared with Business Insider that he and his co-founders attracted investors who recognized the need for a new strategy in enterprise operations, which AI agents can fulfill. "Investors showed significant interest in the customer stories we presented, acknowledging our emphasis on cross-domain correlation as our unique selling point," he said. Desai emphasized that investors appreciated their successful execution history, unwavering customer focus, and the extensive expertise the team had brought together, all essential for developing enterprise-class products. With this funding completed, Ciroos is now setting its sights on expanding its workforce. The startup plans to recruit AI engineers, full-stack developers, and sales personnel in both the San Francisco Bay Area and India. The demand for AI agents is on the rise in 2025, and Ciroos is entering a competitive landscape where numerous tech startups are creating AI teammates to assist software and computer engineers. Notable competitors include the no-code AI agent startup StackAI, which raised $16 million in May, and AI debugging agent startup Spur, which secured $4.5 million in April. Other firms, such as Artisan and Coworker, have also recently announced significant funding rounds, further intensifying the competition in the sector.
