IONNA, the innovative charging network, has announced a significant partnership with Circle K that will expand its unique 'Rechargery' experience to over 350 Circle K locations throughout the United States. The rollout will initially focus on 85 existing Circle K charging sites, with the first Rechargeries set to begin operations by the end of this year. This expansion is expected to continue into 2027, according to IONNA's plans. Founded in 2023 by a consortium of eight leading automotive manufacturers, including BMW, General Motors, and Toyota, IONNA aims to establish 30,000 high-speed chargers across the U.S. by 2030, starting with its first installations in 2024. Currently, there are 108 operational IONNA locations featuring a mix of 375 NACS and 658 CCS plugs, as reported by the Department of Energy's Alternative Fueling Station Locator. One of the significant challenges facing the rapid deployment of fast-charging infrastructure has been lengthy permitting delays. The collaboration with Circle K, which already has charging stations in place, is expected to expedite the process. IONNA will take over the management of Circle K's charging facilities, which include 378 plugs at 93 stations, as indicated by DOE statistics. Most of these locations will transform into Rechargeries, designed to provide a safe and convenient charging environment with features such as canopies, adequate lighting for nighttime safety, restrooms, a driver’s lounge, and food and beverage options. An additional 200 Rechargeries are planned for future Circle K locations. Aaron Wolff, COO of IONNA, expressed gratitude towards Circle K for recognizing IONNA as a leader in the EV charging sector, emphasizing the importance of customer care and excellence in service. Håkon Stiksrud, Circle K’s vice president of global e-mobility, highlighted that this partnership will not only enable the swift scaling of high-power charging at trusted locations but also enhance the overall retail experience for customers on the go. Last year, Circle K also opened its first electric vehicle charging-only location near Gothenburg, Sweden.
