Chrome can now autofill your passport, driver’s license, and vehicle registration info

Google has unveiled an exciting update to its Chrome browser, enhancing its autofill capabilities to now include passport details, driver's license information, and vehicle registration data. This upgrade builds upon Chrome's previous ability to automatically enter addresses, passwords, and payment details. Users on desktop devices who have activated the enhanced autofill feature will find that their passport numbers, driver’s license information, vehicle details like license plate numbers and VINs, are seamlessly populated on websites when prompted. Google's advancements also allow Chrome to better interpret complex forms and diverse formatting, ensuring greater accuracy in data entry across the internet. Importantly, Google emphasizes that autofill data is only saved with user permission and is safeguarded through encryption. Before Chrome inputs any saved information, it will request user confirmation to maintain privacy and security. This global rollout is effective immediately in all languages. Looking ahead, Chrome is set to expand its support for additional data types in the coming months. This announcement coincides with Google's broader strategy to enhance Chrome's functionality, especially in light of the increasing competition from AI-driven browsers. Recently, Google had introduced its Gemini feature to all U.S. Mac and Windows desktop users, previously available only to select subscribers. Future updates are expected to introduce even more agentic capabilities, integrate AI Mode search features into the address bar, and implement measures to combat AI-generated scams, among other enhancements. Recent updates also include a tool to automatically disable notifications from inactive websites and improvements to facilitate easier switching between work and personal Google accounts.
