Nolan’sThe Odysseygets a new trailer, and we’re here for it

In a thrilling lead-up to its release, acclaimed director Christopher Nolan has teamed up with Universal Pictures to present a visually stunning adaptation of Homer's timeless poem, The Odyssey. The studio has just released a captivating new trailer, lasting two and a half minutes, brimming with breathtaking visuals, profound emotions, and an orchestral score that perfectly captures the grandeur of this legendary tale. For many, the story of Odysseus, the heroic king of Ithaca, is familiar from school days. After ten grueling years in the Trojan War, he embarks on a perilous journey home that is far from straightforward. Odysseus and his crew face legendary challenges, including the fearsome cyclops Polyphemus, the enchanting Sirens, and the sorceress Circe. Meanwhile, his devoted wife, Penelope, must fend off numerous suitors vying for her hand and his throne. Nolan, known for his grand storytelling, recently drew parallels between Homer’s epic and modern superhero narratives during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. He remarked, “Even comic book culture, whether you’re talking about Marvel or D.C. or all the rest, a lot of it comes pretty directly from the Homeric Epics. The fascinating thing about Homer is that nobody knows if he was a real person—he’s like the George Lucas of his time.” The film features a star-studded cast, with Matt Damon taking on the role of Odysseus. Anne Hathaway portrays the steadfast Penelope, while Tom Holland plays their son, Telemachus. Other notable cast members include Robert Pattinson as the ambitious suitor Antinous, Jon Bernthal as the Spartan king Menelaus, and Benny Safdie as the Achaean commander Agamemnon. The ensemble also features John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Odysseus’ loyal servant, along with Himesh Patel, Will Yun Lee, and Mia Goth in key roles. Adding to the intrigue, Zendaya will portray Athena, Charlize Theron takes on Circe, and Lupita Nyong’o is set for a mysterious role yet to be revealed.
