On Monday, OpenAI's widely used AI chatbot, ChatGPT, encountered significant service disruptions, prompting users to voice their complaints across social media platforms. Downdetector, a website that monitors outages, reported a spike in issues starting at 12:54 PM, with roughly 627 users logging complaints by around 1:10 PM. In India, the data revealed that approximately 82% of users faced problems with ChatGPT, while 12% struggled with the browser and 6% with the app. Major cities affected included Chandigarh, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Surat, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Meanwhile, in the United States, over 150 complaints were recorded by Downdetector within the same timeframe. Among these, 81% reported issues with ChatGPT, 12% with the app, and 7% with the website, particularly affecting users in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Atlanta. As of now, OpenAI has not released an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or when service might be restored. Users have been encouraged to keep an eye on official channels for further updates. The outage triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with many users expressing their frustration and even humor. One user on X, @roubalsehgal, tweeted, "Okay, ChatGPT is down... I'm not alone," along with a screenshot showing error messages. Another user remarked, "This is the worst time for ChatGPT to be down." In related news, OpenAI recently announced enhancements to its GPT-5 Instant model, designed to provide better support during sensitive conversations. The company stated that discussions involving delicate topics will now be funneled to this upgraded model to ensure quicker and more thoughtful responses. Additionally, OpenAI confirmed that ChatGPT will clarify which model is active whenever users inquire about it. The rollout of these updates has already begun for ChatGPT users.
