OpenAI has made significant improvements to its ChatGPT voice mode, allowing users to engage with the AI chatbot without switching to a different interface. In an announcement made on Tuesday, the company revealed that the updated design enables users to access ChatGPT Voice directly within the main chat screen. This integration means that as users converse with ChatGPT, they can simultaneously view the AI’s responses, including shared images and other visual content. Previously, users had to navigate to a separate screen featuring an animated blue circle to interact with the voice mode. This setup included options like muting the audio and recording live video, but it limited users to listening without seeing the text responses, which could be inconvenient. With the new feature, users can now talk and watch their answers appear in real time. They can also scroll through earlier messages and view visuals such as images or maps while conversing. This enhancement aims to create a more fluid interaction, simplifying the transition between voice and text within a single conversation. As part of the rollout, this updated voice mode will soon be accessible to all users on both mobile and web platforms. Users are encouraged to update their apps to experience these new functionalities. For those who prefer the older design, OpenAI has included an option in the settings to revert to the original separate voice mode, labeled as “Voice Mode.” This allows users to choose their preferred experience while interacting with ChatGPT.
