European airports still dealing with disruptions days after ransomware attack

A significant ransomware attack targeting Collins Aerospace, which supplies check-in systems to numerous European airports, has led to ongoing travel disruptions for the fourth consecutive day. Current reports from FlightRadar24 indicate that London's Heathrow Airport is facing a staggering 90% of its flights delayed, with an average delay of 29 minutes. Meanwhile, Brussels Airport reports 88% of its flights are delayed, averaging a delay of 43 minutes. Berlin Brandenburg Airport is experiencing an even more severe situation, with 94% of flights delayed and an average delay of one hour. Dublin Airport is not far behind, reporting 91% of flights delayed with an average delay of 26 minutes. Graeme McQueen, a spokesperson for Dublin Airport, informed TechCrunch that there is currently no established timeline for resolving the issues. Airlines are resorting to manual workarounds while efforts continue to address the IT problems impacting check-in and boarding systems. Brussels Airport communicated via X that it anticipates "limited disruptions" throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Their official website reassured travelers that the service provider is actively working to resolve the issue, though a specific resolution timeline remains uncertain. Similarly, Berlin Airport's website noted that travelers should prepare for longer waiting times. Despite inquiries, spokespeople from Heathrow, Brussels, and Berlin airports have not provided additional comments. On Monday, the European Cybersecurity Agency, ENISA, confirmed that the widespread disruptions are indeed a result of the ransomware attack against Collins Aerospace. RTX, the parent company of Collins Aerospace, has yet to respond regarding the recovery status following the cyber incident.
