Read the pitch deck Instacart veterans used to raise $8.5 million for AI startup Champ AI

Champ AI, a startup founded by former Instacart engineers, has successfully raised $8.5 million in seed funding aimed at transforming back-office operations through artificial intelligence. The startup's journey began after the founders experienced firsthand the overwhelming challenges of scaling a company, often bogged down by tedious administrative tasks. According to Jagannath Putrevu, CEO and co-founder of Champ AI, the team recognized the struggles operational teams face with manual processes as companies grow. "We've seen firsthand how operations teams deal with lots of manual processes and really struggle as a company scales," Putrevu shared with Business Insider. With the new funding led by Redpoint Ventures and contributions from defy.vc and SV Angel, along with an angel investment from Instacart co-founder Max Mullen, Champ AI is poised to make a significant impact. The company aims to automate various tasks such as logging into websites, interacting with systems, and managing documentation, effectively turning internal policies into actionable automated processes. Champ AI's software acts as both the decision-maker and executor, streamlining operations for businesses. The startup already boasts over 10 paying clients, including Arena Club, which reported a 30% improvement in card-processing efficiency thanks to Champ AI's technology. Positioned in a competitive landscape, Champ AI will contend with established players like UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Microsoft Power Automate, while also targeting tasks typically outsourced to large overseas teams. Despite the potential for disruption, Putrevu emphasized that Champ AI isn't intended to replace human operations teams. Instead, it aims to enhance their capabilities, allowing companies to retain more operations in-house and expedite product launches. With a current team of six, Champ AI plans to use its funding to expand its workforce, focusing on hiring software engineers and sales professionals to further its mission of streamlining back-office tasks.
