At CES 2026, electronics powerhouse LG unveiled CLOid, an AI-driven home robot that promises to transform household chores by taking them off your hands. TechCrunch reporter Lucas Ropek got a firsthand look at CLOid, which is engineered to assist with a variety of domestic tasks, including laundry, breakfast preparation, and home security patrols. In addition to CLOid, the Consumer Electronics Show showcased innovative products like a smart ring from Vocci, designed for note-taking. Unlike previous models aimed at personal organization, this ring can capture audio from up to five meters away and offers an impressive eight hours of recording time. Preorders are set to launch soon, with a price tag under $200 expected. As the event progresses into its third day, the excitement at Eureka Park, home to numerous startups, continues to grow. On stage, Aurora's co-founder Chris Urmson and Hirschbach Motor Lines’ Richard Stocking discussed advancements in autonomous vehicle technology, particularly focused on self-driving trucks. Ford also made headlines by announcing a new AI assistant and upgrades to its advanced driver-assistance system, highlighting the ongoing intersection of technology and transportation. A standout at the show was Donut Lab, a Finnish startup that introduced what it claims to be the first solid-state battery for electric vehicles. This cutting-edge battery technology utilizes solid electrolytes, offering superior energy density, safety, and faster charging times. Donut Lab asserts that its battery can achieve a full charge in just five minutes and provide up to 600 kilometers of range on a single charge, setting a new standard in the EV market. In a notable shift, Ford revealed plans for an AI assistant that will debut in its smartphone app before making its way into vehicles by 2027. The company also teased a next-generation version of its BlueCruise driver-assistance system, promising enhanced capabilities for safer driving experiences. Meanwhile, actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt shared his concerns regarding AI development at the Variety Entertainment Summit, emphasizing the need for ethical practices in AI content creation. He voiced his worries about the potential harm of current business models in the AI sector. Additionally, Fox Entertainment's CMO Darren Schillace highlighted the company's strategy to leverage multiple streaming platforms to broaden their audience reach, illustrating the evolving landscape of media consumption. On the micromobility front, Infinite Machine showcased two eye-catching scooters that have garnered attention for their innovative design and performance.
