The startup scene in Central Eurasia is experiencing a significant transformation. A record-breaking 485 applications poured in from 27 countries, including nations like Armenia, Georgia, and Uzbekistan, for the 'Road to the Battlefield' competition, culminating in Central Eurasia's most extensive startup pitch event to date. This initiative aims to showcase the region's innovative entrepreneurs on the prestigious TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 200 stage in San Francisco. Organized by Silkroad Innovation Hub in collaboration with TechCrunch and Freedom Holding, this competition marks a pivotal moment for a region that has been steadily enhancing its technological landscape. Asset Abdualiyev, CEO and Founder of Silkroad Innovation Hub, emphasized the importance of this endeavor: "Our mission is to elevate Central Eurasia on the global startup and VC map. This competition not only reflects our ambition but also highlights the remarkable talent emerging from underrepresented areas." Between July 21 and August 12, a staggering 380 startups showcased their innovations across nine online national rounds, contributing to an impressive 32 hours of pitch presentations. Notably, 35% of the startups were founded by women, and the youngest participant, at just 14 years old, represented Unify from Uzbekistan. The startups varied in maturity, with 43 in the idea phase, 224 with minimum viable products, and 26 at the pre-Series A stage. Ultimately, four exceptional startups emerged victorious: Polygraf AI (Azerbaijan, USA), QuickShipper (Georgia), Surfaice (USA, Kazakhstan), and ArtSkin (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan). These companies will now compete at the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield 2025, marking the first time Central Eurasian startups have had a dedicated pathway to this esteemed competition. This initiative has sparked cross-border collaboration and garnered international investor interest, positioning the region as a significant player in the global innovation landscape. Kazakhstan's Minister of Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiyev, noted the increased engagement from local startups, stating, "The 168 applications we received indicate our ecosystem's growing maturity and ambition on a global scale. We are committed to supporting Kazakh entrepreneurs as they expand internationally." The competition concluded with a Regional Final on August 15, where 20 finalists presented their ideas to an international judging panel. The selection process involved a diverse jury of 40 members from 10 different countries, representing a wide array of investors and industry experts. TechCrunch also introduced a unique element to the competition by including an AI judge named AI-Gerim, enhancing the evaluation process. This blend of human expertise and AI insights sets a new standard for assessing emerging startups. The innovations presented spanned various industries, with a notable focus on Artificial Intelligence. The winning startups addressed real-world challenges in sectors such as HealthTech, EdTech, and FinTech. For instance, Polygraf AI specializes in AI threat detection, while QuickShipper offers an efficient delivery solution for retailers. The competition not only served as a platform for these startups to gain visibility but also fostered cross-border dialogues among entrepreneurs and attracted new investor interest in the region. The initiative, backed by Freedom Holding Corp, aims to empower Central Eurasian founders and connect them with international markets. As the four winning startups prepare for their upcoming showcase in San Francisco, they embody the growing aspirations of Central Eurasia's entrepreneurial community, paving the way for future innovations and collaborations that could reshape the global tech landscape.
