PM Narendra Modi celebrates 11 years of Digital India; Says ‘Impact is transformative’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 11th anniversary of the Digital India initiative, emphasizing its profound impact on the nation. He remarked that the rapid digital transformation has revolutionized how citizens access various services and technologies. In a celebratory post on social media platform X, Modi stated, "When over a billion people embrace technology, the impact is transformative!" Accompanying his message was a video showcasing the widespread adoption of digital services, including mobile banking and e-governance, that have emerged since the program's inception. The Prime Minister further noted, "The success of 11 years of Digital India has given India a new identity on the global stage. This reflects the determination of our citizens to elevate the nation through innovation and technology." He articulated a vision where mastery of knowledge leads to scientific advancement, guiding the nation towards its ultimate goals. Under the Digital India framework, significant strides have been made, particularly in enhancing access to technology for underserved communities. Modi pointed out that the initiative serves as a cornerstone of India's economic development, rendering the country more advanced and self-reliant. The Prime Minister highlighted the global attention garnered by India's achievements, stating, "From the expansion of optical fiber networks to digital transactions, the unprecedented success of this campaign has drawn the attention of the entire world towards India." The Digital India Program is based on nine foundational pillars, including Broadband Highways, Universal Mobile Connectivity, and e-Governance. This initiative has evolved into one of the largest digital ecosystems globally, encompassing platforms for digital identity, payments, and public services. According to recent reports, India has emerged as a leader in real-time digital payments, with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) representing nearly 49% of global transactions in this area. The digital economy now contributes approximately 12 to 14% of India’s GDP, with projections suggesting this share could rise to 20% in the coming decade. The transformation has also spurred growth in startups, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, aligning with the government's vision for Viksit Bharat 2047.
