Cash App, the popular payment platform owned by Block, Inc., has rolled out an innovative feature aimed at simplifying the user experience: payment links. This new tool allows users to send payment requests through a hyperlink, which can be easily integrated into various communication methods, including texts, emails, and direct messages. To utilize this feature, users navigate to the payment tab in Cash App and select the new 'share link' option instead of the traditional 'add recipient.' This action generates a link that preloads the payment amount, streamlining the transaction process for both the sender and recipient. Notably, Cash App has designed these links for versatility, supporting both one-time and recurring payments, as well as group payments. The introduction of payment links follows a survey of Gen-Z users, revealing that they frequently engage in multiple exchanges when handling payments. Cash App aims to reduce the social discomfort often associated with asking for money by facilitating a more straightforward and personable transaction experience. Kristen Anderson, the P2P & Networks Product Lead at Cash App, emphasized the importance of this feature, stating, 'Payment links make moving money even more seamless, but just as importantly, they make the task of requesting money feel more human and less awkward.' She noted that traditional in-app requests can sometimes come off as overly formal or passive-aggressive, while payment links allow users to communicate in a manner that feels more natural and relatable. In addition to payment links, Cash App has been actively enhancing its platform with new features, including an AI chatbot launched last year to assist users with financial advice, as well as a new benefits program that boasts a high borrowing limit.
