Calm launches standalone iOS app for sleep support

Calm has introduced a new standalone application aimed at enhancing sleep experiences, as announced on Tuesday. The Calm Sleep app, available exclusively for iOS, is crafted to assist users in unwinding, achieving better sleep quality, and waking up rejuvenated. This innovative app features tailored content alongside new functionalities aimed at helping users meet their sleep objectives. Upon launching the app, users will complete a brief onboarding questionnaire, which informs the creation of a customized sleep plan. This plan encompasses suggested content and daily activities focused on improving various aspects of sleep, such as digital habits, physical exercise, stress management, and the sleep environment. A standout feature of Calm Sleep is the “sleep readiness” bar, which visually indicates progress as users accomplish daily tasks. This tool is designed to promote the development of healthier sleep habits. Additionally, the app seamlessly integrates with wearable devices through Apple HealthKit, enabling users to take proactive measures based on their sleep data. At its debut, Calm Sleep will offer new Sleep Stories narrated by radio host Delilah and actor Andrew Scott, in addition to an extensive library boasting over 300 hours of sleep content and 500 Sleep Stories. Notably, all new sleep content will enjoy four weeks of exclusive access on Calm Sleep before it becomes available on the main Calm platform. Calm's foray into sleep content began a decade ago with the introduction of Sleep Stories, which have since amassed over 1 billion plays. Jon Tien, Chief Product Officer at Calm, stated, “Calm is a global leader in sleep, with more than half our users already turning to us for rest and some of the most widely used content and tools on the market. With Calm Sleep, we’re launching a product entirely focused on the sleep experience, from daytime habits to nighttime routines.” The app offers a free version that allows users to access the personalized plan, daily tasks, and wearable compatibility. For a more comprehensive experience, users can opt for the Calm Sleep Premium subscription, priced at $69.99 per year. Plans to release an Android version are also in the works for the future.
