Redmi 15 5G vs Poco M7 Plus 5G: The₹15,000 budget phone battle you can't miss

The budget smartphone arena in India has recently witnessed an exciting face-off between two strong contenders: Xiaomi's Redmi 15 5G and Poco M7 Plus 5G. Both smartphones, launched this month, are vying for attention with promises of robust batteries, vibrant displays, and AI-enhanced features—all priced under ₹17,000. Starting with pricing, the Redmi 15 5G is available from ₹14,999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant, with the 8GB + 256GB model priced at ₹16,999. Customers can purchase it from 28 August through platforms like Amazon, Xiaomi’s official website, and various offline retailers. The smartphone comes in three attractive colors: Frosted White, Midnight Black, and Sandy Purple. Meanwhile, the Poco M7 Plus 5G slightly undercuts its competitor, beginning at ₹13,999 for the 6GB + 128GB model and going up to ₹14,999 for the 8GB + 256GB version. It became available on 19 August via Flipkart, boasting color options such as Aqua Blue, Carbon Black, and Chrome Silver. In terms of display and performance, both models feature a 6.9-inch Full HD+ screen with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 288Hz, achieving peak brightness levels of up to 850 nits. They both hold TÜV Rheinland certifications, which help alleviate eye strain. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, they offer up to 8GB of LPDDR4x RAM. However, storage options differ slightly: Redmi provides up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage, while Poco caps its higher-end model at 128GB. Both devices operate on Android 15 with HyperOS 2.0, guaranteeing two years of major OS updates and four years of security patches. When it comes to photography, the Redmi 15 5G features a dual rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor equipped with AI capabilities, along with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. The Poco M7 Plus 5G matches this with its own 50-megapixel main sensor and an additional secondary camera, also featuring an 8-megapixel selfie camera that supports video recording at 1080p/30fps. Both smartphones come with a substantial 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, supporting 33W fast charging and 18W reverse wired charging for other devices. Additional features of the Redmi 15 5G include Dolby-certified speakers, Google’s Gemini integration, and Circle to Search support. Both models incorporate a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance, and the signature IR blaster found in the Redmi 15 5G. In conclusion, with their nearly identical specs, the Redmi 15 5G and Poco M7 Plus 5G showcase the fierce competition among brands in India’s budget smartphone segment. While Poco focuses on a slightly lower entry price, Redmi offers more storage options and advanced AI features. Ultimately, consumer preference may hinge on brand loyalty, minor feature differences, and available retail offers.
