See inside the $5.99 million Brooklyn home whose owner is willing to trade for Anthropic stock

A luxury home in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, has made headlines by offering a unique payment option: the owner is open to accepting Anthropic stock or bitcoin instead of traditional cash for the property's asking price of $5.99 million. This unconventional listing reflects a growing trend among homeowners who are willing to embrace private tech equity as a form of currency, driven by the booming fortunes in the artificial intelligence sector. "Every generation has its wealth-creation vehicle. For many people today, that's private technology companies and digital assets," stated the seller in a message to Business Insider through their listing agent. The seller indicated that the inclusion of Anthropic shares and bitcoin was intended to acknowledge the evolving financial landscape and show a readiness to explore creative transaction options. They expressed a desire to engage with potential buyers who may be interested in swapping a portion of their tech investments for real estate. Interest in Anthropic shares has surged recently, especially after the company confidentially filed for an initial public offering (IPO), a move that could provide employees and investors with a lucrative exit strategy. The seller, who uses Anthropic's products daily, mentioned that the recent news prompted them to consider shares as a payment alternative, enabling employees to utilize their newly acquired liquidity to invest in real estate within the upscale neighborhood they have called home for the past decade. The property itself is situated in a private mews adjacent to Domino Park and features four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two powder rooms, along with a finished basement and a private garage equipped with EV charging. Designed for indoor-outdoor living, it boasts a landscaped garden for gatherings and a rooftop deck that provides stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and Williamsburg Bridge. Inside, the home offers impressive features, including high ceilings, wide-plank white oak flooring, and a spacious living room with a gas fireplace. The primary suite occupies the top floor, showcasing a luxurious bathroom and walk-in closet, while the lower level presents adaptable space for various uses such as a home theater, gym, office, or studio. Part of the Wythe Lane Townhomes development, the property is conveniently located near Domino Park and a range of local amenities, including restaurants and ferry services. Previously, the home was listed for $6.5 million in August 2025, underwent several price adjustments, and is now positioned on the market just below $6 million. Christine Blackburn, one of the property’s listing agents, noted that the seller’s decision to accept Anthropic shares as payment was influenced by a similar listing in the Bay Area and was not directly tied to previous price cuts. With the emergence of private AI companies creating a new class of affluent individuals, some homeowners are starting to view startup equity as a viable currency. This trend is notably transforming housing markets, particularly in tech-centric regions like the Bay Area, where the wealth generated by companies like Anthropic and OpenAI is driving demand and increasing luxury home prices.
