Broadcom has unveiled significant enhancements to its VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) ecosystem, aiming to bolster its open infrastructure for private cloud deployments. This expansion includes new certification programs, initiatives in open networking, and contributions to open-source projects, all designed to assist businesses in creating adaptable private clouds. According to Paul Turner, Chief Product Officer of the VMware Cloud Foundation Division at Broadcom, the momentum behind VMware Cloud Foundation 9.0 is unmistakable. He emphasized that this platform is transforming how organizations navigate their private cloud journeys by offering a consistent operational model that integrates data centers and edge computing environments. One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of VCF AI ReadyNodes, which streamlines the certification process for customers looking to adopt advanced CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators. Supermicro is among the first original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to receive certification for its AI ReadyNode systems, indicating a strong push towards modern hardware integration. Additionally, Broadcom has launched an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) Partner Self-Certification program, allowing manufacturers to independently certify their systems via the Broadcom Technology Alliance Program. Supermicro's Vice President of Business Development, Ismail Sayeeduddin, expressed excitement at being one of the initial hardware OEMs to certify their GPU systems as VCF AI ReadyNodes. The company is also focusing on edge-optimized nodes tailored for compact and robust servers, particularly for industries such as retail and defense, facilitating closer deployment of cloud infrastructure to data sources. Partners like OVHcloud, Intel, and SNUC are supporting this open hardware initiative. Yaniv Fdida, Chief Product and Technology Officer at OVHcloud, noted that Broadcom’s open certification program aligns with their vertical integration strategy, allowing for self-certification of their server systems for VCF. Broadcom is also launching a new networking initiative aimed at unifying network fabrics through standards-based Ethernet Virtual Private Networks (EVPN) and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) networking, which simplifies operations and enhances interoperability in multi-vendor settings. Cisco's Vice President of Data Center Networking, Murali Gandluru, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, reflecting a shared commitment to open standards. Furthermore, Broadcom confirmed that the VMware Cloud Foundation Networking (NSX) now supports Software for Open Networking in the Cloud (SONiC), an open-source network operating system that aims to reduce costs and streamline DevOps processes. The company remains active in contributing to open-source initiatives such as Kubernetes, Antrea, and Cluster API, with the VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service recently achieving certification as an AI Conformant Platform. Chris Aniszczyk, CTO of Cloud & Infrastructure at the Linux Foundation, acknowledged Broadcom's longstanding commitment to supporting essential projects like Kubernetes.
