Bluesky users can customize their notifications, including activity alerts from their favorite accounts

Bluesky has rolled out a series of exciting updates aimed at giving users greater control over their notification settings. Announced on Monday, these enhancements are designed to streamline the notification experience, allowing users to minimize unwanted alerts while staying connected with their favorite accounts. Among the key features introduced is the ability to receive tailored activity notifications from specific accounts. This means users can opt to be alerted only when certain individuals reply to their posts, making it easier to manage interactions. To customize these preferences, users can navigate through Settings and select Notifications, where they can adjust alerts for various activities such as new followers, likes, replies, mentions, quotes, and reposts. A notable addition is the “Everything Else” option, which encompasses a range of general notifications, including alerts when someone joins via a Starter Pack or changes in account verification status. Each notification category can be fine-tuned to apply only to followed accounts or to everyone, with the option to disable specific alerts altogether. For users who predominantly share content rather than create it, the new notification features are particularly beneficial. They can now be alerted when someone likes their reposts or shares content originally posted by them, fostering a sense of engagement within the community. Additionally, Bluesky has revamped its previous “priority notifications” system. Instead of filtering updates solely from followed accounts, users must now adjust settings for replies, mentions, and quotes to receive notifications only from the people they follow, ensuring a more personalized experience. The new activity notification feature mirrors functionalities seen on platforms like X and Threads, allowing users to opt-in for alerts whenever an account they follow posts new content or replies to previous posts. Users can easily activate notifications by visiting a profile and tapping the bell icon next to the follow button. Finally, users have the flexibility to manage their activity notifications directly in the settings, including the option to remove accounts from their notifications list. However, it's important to note that account owners have the ability to disable these notifications for their followers, which may limit the alerts users can receive based on their preferences.
