Bluesky now supports better quality photos

Bluesky is stepping up its game in the social networking arena, making it an even better platform for photo sharing. On Wednesday, the company revealed an update to its app (version 1.121) that significantly enhances the quality of images users can upload. Previously, the app limited photo uploads to a maximum size of 1MB, but with the new update, this limit has been increased to 2MB. Moreover, the resolution of photos has also seen a substantial upgrade, allowing images to render at a maximum of 4000 pixels, a notable improvement from the previous cap of 2000 pixels. In addition to these enhancements, the app has replaced its traditional image grid with a more dynamic swipeable carousel feature. This new design accommodates mixed aspect ratios without the need for cropping, although some users have expressed a desire for the option to choose between a grid or carousel display. These updates position Bluesky more competitively against other social networks, such as X and Meta’s Threads, which have garnered attention for their photo-sharing capabilities. Threads, in particular, has gained popularity for its support of diverse aspect ratios and innovative carousel features, prompting even the creation of a dedicated app for posting panoramic images. However, it is worth noting that Threads still allows for a larger maximum image size, although this detail is not explicitly mentioned in their documentation.
