Blue Origin will ‘move heaven and Earth’ to help NASA reach the Moon faster, CEO says

Blue Origin has expressed its commitment to assist NASA in accelerating the timeline for lunar human landings, according to the company's CEO, Dave Limp. In a recent interview, Limp emphasized, "Our aim is to support the U.S. in reaching the Moon as swiftly as possible." He added, "If NASA seeks to expedite their plans, we would go to great lengths—pun intended—to help them achieve that goal. We have some promising ideas in mind." Limp's comments came just before Blue Origin's imminent launch of the New Glenn rocket, which is set to carry the ESCAPADE spacecraft for NASA. This mission is scheduled to take off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, with a launch window opening at 2:45 PM ET (19:45 UTC) and lasting a little over two hours. The urgency of NASA's lunar ambitions has heightened recently, particularly in light of China’s advancing space program, which poses the risk of it becoming the first to land humans on the Moon in this new era. Responding to this competitive landscape, NASA’s acting administrator, Sean Duffy, announced a re-evaluation of the human lander competition about three weeks ago. Both SpaceX and Blue Origin hold existing contracts for human landers, but NASA is now urging each provider to consider expedited timelines. Currently, NASA aims for a lunar landing by 2027, a target deemed unrealistic with the current capabilities of SpaceX's Starship and Blue Origin's Mk. 2 lander designs. In early October, it was revealed that Blue Origin is working on a revamped architecture that includes multiple versions of its Mk. 1 cargo lander and a modified variant referred to as Mk 1.5. Following Duffy’s request for revised proposals, Limp stated that Blue Origin promptly submitted an initial summary and is preparing a comprehensive report. While he refrained from sharing specifics, he noted, "We have suggestions that could potentially accelerate the journey to the Moon. I hope NASA closely considers our proposals."
