Blue Origin successfully re-uses a New Glenn rocket for the first time ever

In a groundbreaking achievement, Blue Origin has successfully re-launched a New Glenn rocket for the first time, a significant step forward for the company as it aims to compete with SpaceX. This milestone was reached during the third launch of the New Glenn system, just over a year after its initial flight, which has been in development for over a decade. Reusability is pivotal for the economic viability of New Glenn. SpaceX's success with the Falcon 9 boosters has largely contributed to its dominance in the global launch market. While Blue Origin has previously sent commercial payloads into orbit using New Glenn, this latest launch marks its second mission with the rocket, expanding its capabilities. The company has ambitious plans for New Glenn, eyeing NASA moon missions and the establishment of satellite networks in collaboration with Amazon. Currently, Blue Origin is finalizing its first robotic lunar lander, which is set for launch later this year. The booster that was re-used on Sunday had previously supported the New Glenn's second mission in November, where it successfully deployed two robotic NASA spacecraft on a journey to Mars, before being recovered from a drone ship in the ocean. On this latest mission, the booster was once again retrieved from a drone ship around ten minutes after liftoff. The primary objective of Sunday’s launch was to deploy a communications satellite for AST SpaceMobile. At the time of reporting, the New Glenn's upper stage was still en route to deliver the satellite to its designated orbit, with updates anticipated as the mission unfolds.
